Grand Canal

The second stop on our trip through northern Italy was Venice. About 300 km from Milan to the city of canals.

While we were walking through the city we had the opportunity to embark on a journey through the Grand Canal, who is the city's largest waterway.

Here we are in the vaporetto.

It's amazing to look at the margins of this channel and watch the facades of buildings.

Rialto Bridge, the oldest and most famous bridge over the grand canal.

The gondolas are everywhere :)

It was here that began our journey through northern Italy and then go to Sardinia to finally lie on the beach. 2 weeks of Italian culture and rest :)

Duomo. The monument is immense ... 157 meters tall. The Duomo seen from a terrace where we only pay 7€ for a coke...cheap :)

Bangkok

On the first day I came to Thailand I came across this scenario in front of my hotel. As I arrived at night the impact was even greater.

There are large concentrations of garbage in the streets as well as cockroaches. Is interesting to observe this coexistence.
The people are wonderful, the streets are covered with joy and color.

This is the preferred means of transportation (tuk-tuk), with few money you can go through the whole city...

... is also the most dangerous vehicle, is something wonderful about walking the streets in this thing.

After the tuk-tuk, it is always worth visiting the city across the river (Chao Phraya River).

Khao San Road is the most visited street by tourists. You can watch several animations and aberrations.

Massive Day in Ribeira d'Ilhas

Ericeira is a prime location for surfing, with beautiful and perfect waves. It is also a site with a unique natural beauty.

The photos below were taken in one day really aggressive with Ribeira d'Ilhas showing its true potential for the more adventurous surfers.

Split

Split was one of the cities visited while traveling the coast of Dalmatia. It is the largest and most important city on this coast, being the second largest city in the country.

The intention would be to spend a week surfing the best spots of our coast. Two days after we left we were back home.

Some say it's the most beautiful bay in the world. I do not know many, but it was the prettiest I've seen until that day.

It is very close from croatia, and it is an amazing one day trip.

You can go around the bay by car, but the harder it is to keep your eyes on the road.

The starting point of this one-day visit was the historic train station of the city. Historic because it was part of the first rail of the Netherlands (1839).

During our stay in Croatia we scheduled one-day visit to the Bosnian town of Mostar. The references were positive and the fear was zero...

...until this sign!!! : (Dubrovnik in front - Sarajevo right).
I admit that there was some anxiety at the entrance of the country...

...but the initial scenario was nice.

On the entrance to Mostar the scenario becomes more scary. More movement, more fearful expressions, and buildings decorated with bullet holes.

The surprise was in the center and on the banks of the River Neretva. A cozy old town :)

This was the first city we visited in contact with the Dalmatian Coast.
Was recommended by some friends and it turned out a little wonder.

On the way...

Once was an island but is now connected to the mainland by a bridge.

The city, which looks like a fortress, is well preserved and allows us to attend a fabulous landscape.

It was a complicated day. The park seemed to be getting further away but the landscape was always admired :)

At one point I thought: "We are lost!" :)

This was it ... we have entered in a war zone :)

Finally ... we had access to the park without realizing how.

The Plitvice Lakes are considered as world heritage by UNESCO. I was amazed with such beauty, although it has not been the best time of year to visit this site.

This was the first place I visited on my trip to Croatia. A small town with little to see. It was the way to the main attraction, the lakes of Plitvice.

This was the city where most keenly noticed the marks of the recent war, through its future war museum (where you can enter)...

Belgium was the host of the finals of the Europa Cup 2010 (Korfball). Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, Portugal, England and Hungary were the countries involved. The order presented corresponds to its position in the event, with the Netherlands in 1st place.

Were six intense days of physical wear and pure emotion.

On the first day of competition we face a frightening scenario through the bedroom window. The fog preceding an environment of war. Once we were allowed to have some free time we visited the town of Herentals. Very small, quiet and with a welcoming atmosphere...

...except the 4ºC.International competitions are always unique and unforgettable ... I'm already waiting for the next opportunity :)

Before entering the Port of Ko Phi Phi i tasted a tropical downpour.
This was the first image i saw of the islands.

It's hard to imagine the chaos that must have been watching the tsunami coming through this area. One of the waves came at it this way (Lohdalum Bay, Natural Disaster, 2004).

This was the temple that I liked most in Angkor, it's difficult not to like. It's amazing how the trees hug the ruins that remain.

Some directors have used these scenarios to give life to some movies. Tomb Raider is the best known.

2 Nights in Siam Reap...

It was a childhood dream, and when I was in Thailand I thought: why not!!! And crossed the Cambodia border to visit the temples of Angkor. It was just amazing to know Siam Reap and stay in a modest guesthouse.

Angkor Wat was the first temple I visited and I was delighted.

Near Chiang Rai (Northern Thailand) I visited the most beautiful temple in all of Thailand (at least for me). The white temple known as Wat Rong Khun.

In northern Thailand I visited this tribe who came from Burma. They have the custom of wearing rings around the neck and other parts of the body. The reason most listened explains that this custom prevented the attacks of tigers, but today, this custom continues to be practiced only because of tourism.

This bay has the most impressive scenery in southern Thailand with its rock formations shaped maze. In the set of all islands we find the James Bond Island, known to have been the scene of the shooting of one of the 007 films (Man With The Golden Gun).

Viagem de finalistas...muita diversão, muita bebida, muitas noites não dormidas.

Alguns dizem que é a passagem para a vida adulta, daí a possível razão de muitos continuarem por concluir os seus cursos :) outros referem que é apenas mais uma etapa da vida sem importância.

Eu estava "mortinho" por terminar o meu curso e começar a trabalhar, pôr em prática aquilo que tinha aprendido, enfim, afinal não tinha aprendido nada ainda...

Grécia, Percurso Olímpico

Em Agosto de 2002 o objectivo era chegar à Grécia via terra/água. Chegar e conhecer o País dos Jogos Olímpicos.

A primeira localidade foi Olimpia, nada mais do que a cidade da Antiga Grécia onde se realizavam os Jogos Olímpicos da Antiguidade.

A foto foi tirada no local de realização desses mesmos Jogos. O local foi considerado Património Mundial pela UNESCO.

De seguida partimos para Atenas, para visitar um antigo Estádio Olímpico.

Em Atenas não deixámos de visitar a Acrópole e comprovar o facto :)

Por fim, fomos a Creta visitar o Palácio de Knossos.

Ficaram por mostrar muitos outros locais relacionados com os Jogos Olímpicos, mas fica o último pôr do sol que assistimos pouco depois de sair de Patras.

As Salinas de Rio Maior

No dia do trabalhador (1 de Maio) nada melhor do que trabalhar!!! Pois foi assim que passei o belo de um Sábado num Congresso da Associação Portuguesa de Técnicos de Natação.

Contudo, a hora de almoço permitiu-me fazer aquilo que gosto, explorar o que de belo há no mundo...desta vez foram as Salinas de Rio Maior.

8 séculos a extrair sal de uma mina de sal-gema atravessada por uma corrente de água doce subterrânea. A água torna-se depois salgada ao ponto de o ser 7x mais salgada que a do mar.

Estas salinas são únicas no País. O Sal extraído é puro.

Mais um destino motivado pelo desporto. Em Abril de 2007 fomos em busca do País do Corfebol. O objectivo era ver a final do campeonato nacional.

Mas há sempre tempo para outras paragens.

Não é só o País do Corfebol...

... afinal é o País de muita coisa :)

Em Maio de 2005 o destino foi Tunísia. O 1º país Árabe a visitar e o meu primeiro impacto cultural. Aqui pensei: Tenho de dar a volta ao mundo :)

Praga, cheia de água

Alguns dizem que é a cidade mais bonita da Europa, infelizmente não me foi possível confirmar, pois visitei a capital Checa em Agosto de 2002, ou seja, na altura das cheias que invadiram a Europa.

Metro inundado, ruas cortadas, milhares de sacos de areia a servirem de barreira, linhas férreas alagadas, ou seja, o desespero para conseguir fugir da cidade.

Nápoles, Bandidos e Lixo

A paragem (Agosto de 2002) foi apenas para fazer ligação com a Ilha de Capri. Fiquei admirado com tanto lixo pela cidade!!!

À chegada na estação ferroviária fomos abordados para ter cuidado com os carteiristas da cidade. Que bela recepção!...mas ao menos redobrei a minha atenção :)

Luxemburgo

O desporto leva-nos a destinos que ficariam para o final da lista das nossas viagens de sonho. Desta vez foi Luxemburgo em Novembro de 2008 para disputar a 1ª fase da Europa Cup 2009 de Corfebol.

Com um programa rígido de 2 jogos por dia, poucas foram as oportunidades para fugir dos pavilhões. Contudo, aqui ficam algumas fotos da capital (Luxemburgo) que transmitem a arrumação dos tipos :)

Foi difícil chegar a Veneza (Agosto de 2002), uma vez que partimos de Patras (Grécia) de barco. Não foi a remos mas demorámos 34 horas a percorrer o Mar Adriático.

Foi uma paragem curta durante o interail de Agosto de 2002. Visitámos o Museu Oceanográfico de Jacques Cousteau, fizemos parte do circuito F1 (de autocarro!!!), almoçámos perto de uma marina exclusiva para bilionários, vimos Ferraris, Rolls Royces, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis e partimos.

Este principado parece uma casa de bonecas. Limpo e organizado, com tudo pensado ao detalhe. Até parecia mal andar com os atacadores dos ténis desapertados. Saí com a impressão de que seria expulso pela polícia se permanecesse por mais umas horas :)

Paris

Paris foi a 1ª paragem de uma viagem que me despertou para o desconhecido. Um interail em Agosto de 2002 que me abriu as portas do mundo.

Mochila às costas e coragem para enfrentar os desafios.

Uma imagem que dispensa qualquer apresentação.

Junto da Torre Eiffel os artistas de rua dão música e alegria a quem quer que por ali passe.

Em Notre Damme os pardais confundem os pombos e atiram-se à comida em 1º lugar :)

Na rua mais sexy do mundo encontramos Moulin Rouge. O espectáculo ficou adiado por falta de verba, contratempos de um viajante de mochila com poucos trocos no bolso!!!

Uns bons minutos a subir a partir do Moulin Rouge foi o necessário para tirar esta foto (Sacre-Coeur). A companhia ficou a descansar num jardim, assustada com o percurso que a esperava.

Foram poucas as fotos para os 4 dias de estadia. Mais foram os momentos de prazer pela bela capital Francesa. Fica a foto da rainha do Louvre.

Inverness, a Capital das Highlands

Última paragem por terras escocesas: Inverness. A cidade anfitriã do lago mais conhecido do mundo: Loch Ness.

Até lá fomos invadidos por paisagens aterradoras...de beleza.

Glenfinnan, um pedaço das Highlands

A caminho do norte as paisagens começam a querer tomar conta do nosso olhar. Da janela do comboio saboreamos um pouco das montanhas, dos lagos gelados, das Terras Altas.

Fomos três a descer na estação de Glenfinnan. A dúvida pairava no ar. A incerteza nos palpites da escolha da localidade a visitar. Será que vai valer a pena?!

E valeu!!! o melhor dia por terras escocesas.

Stirling, The Land of William Wallace

Stirling é uma pequena cidade com pouca capacidade para a história que alberga. Quem já não ouviu falar de William Wallace (Braveheart). Aquela história que julgávamos apenas do filme. Esta é a cidade que conta a sua vida em pormenor, assim como a de Robert the Bruce, Rei Escocês.

Escócia Mítica

Em Abril de 2006 aterrei no Reino Unido, mais propriamente na Escócia (Edinburgh Airport). A viagem não podia começar melhor, pois experienciei uma viagem nos taxis típicos.

Cada rua é um mistério, cada avenida um espanto, e quem melhor do que a capital (Edimburgo) para nos transmitir isso mesmo. Todos os cantos da cidade têm uma história a contar, uma fantasia entre o seu dia-a-dia.

O que tem de mórbido tem de beleza. Os cemitérios na capital.

30 minutos de viagem a partir do centro de Edimburgo foi o suficiente para chegar a Rosslyn Chapel, igreja simples que foi visitada num dos romances mais vendidos do mundo (O Código Da Vinci).

Pisei Budapeste a 12 de Agosto de 2008 e que bela surpresa!!! O Danúbio "Azul", que pouco tem de azul, está bem acompanhado nas suas margens. Gigantes de pedra espreitam e transformam a cidade num centro cultural fascinante.

O traje de mochileiro é indispensável. Chinelo de enfiar no dedo, calção e t-shirt, combinação ideal para partir à descoberta.

Hamburgo, uma curta paragem

A caminho da Polónia (Março de 2008) fizemos uma paragem na Alemanha. Bemvindos a Frankfurt dizia a hospedeira!!! hummm sorry...Hamburg.

Treblinka, o meu primeiro campo de concentração

Segundo dia de estadia na Polónia e já estava a viajar de comboio.

O difícil era saber qual a minha carruagem!!!

À chegada ao campo foi fácil perceber que o mesmo estava completamente destruído, pouco restava do que antigamente tinha sido um dos maiores campos de concentração da Polónia.

Uns trocos para o comboio de regresso ao hotel (zlotes e groszys).

Viajar ao ritmo da população local e não de uma qualquer agência de viagens é do melhor. Acontecem coisas como esperar por autocarros que já não existem em paragens assinaladas, conversar com taxistas numa linguagem inventada na altura, fazer caminhadas à procura de um simples supermercado, enfim, contratempos de que se sente falta...no dia seguinte.

Poland, a cold place

Frio em todos os sentidos. Além das temperaturas abaixo de 0ºC, o que me fez congelar os dedos, dificultando tirar fotos, é um país triste, ainda invadido por alguns fantasmas do seu passado "recente".

A primeira paragem foi em Varsóvia, totalmente reconstruída após guerra...

...ou talvez não!!!

Mais uma estrada, mais uma ponte, mais um desafio...a Costa Rica é assim mesmo. Nada melhor que confiar no instinto e seguir em frente :)

Lá descobrimos o Parque e a vista do hotel era esta.

Explorando melhor e já dentro dos limites do Parque.

Claro que não faltavam animais.

Enfim, são estas pequenas coisas que nos enchem a vida.

De regresso a Lisboa ainda nos esperava uma paragem que, julgávamos nós, iria ser chata!!! Nada disso...4 horas em Nova Iorque!!! eheh

Monteverde, o desconhecido e outras praias

A Monteverde só foi possível chegar de Jipe...

...ficámos por lá um dia, passámos estas pontes suspensas, fizemos alguns quilómetros de slide, dormimos e seguimos em busca de novas praias.

A caminho cruzamo-nos com esta excursão...

...e pensámos: porque não?!!

Lá fomos visitar o 2º rio mais povoado de crocodilos do mundo (o 1º é o Nilo).

Profissão de risco, eheh!!!

Missão: Descobrir o Vulcão Arenal

La Fortuna foi a localidade procurada para fotografar o Arenal. O vulcão activo da Costa Rica que, por vezes, mostra-nos todo o seu potencial. Infelizmente, quando passámos por lá estava um pouco envergonhado.

A caminho...

O que fazer nestas situações?! continuar em frente, claro!!!

O mais perto que conseguimos chegar. A ausência de vegetação mostra bem a passagem da lava.

Até o Tarzan apareceu...eheh!!!

Numa de saída e mais exploração encontrámos estes animais amigáveis. Os Koatis.

Isla de Tortuguero

O primeiro destino programado na Costa Rica, pernoitar no Parque Natural de Tortuguero para ver a desova das Tartarugas Marinhas Verdes.

O meio de transporte para lá :)

No lugar do condutor.

A caminho...navegando no rio que une a Nicarágua, a Costa Rica e o Panamá.

Há sempre alguém que nos recebe com alegria...desta vez foram os animais :)

É uma ilha pequena...

...mas que vale a viagem!!!

A explorar os canais de Tortuguero.

Só ficaram a faltar as fotos das tartarugas, mas infelizmente não nos permitiram fotografá-las. Mas vimo-las a desovar e foi fantástico!!!

Costa Rica, es pura vida!!!

América Central, Costa Rica, parece um pequeno ponto quando olhamos o planisfério. Enganem-se ;) aquilo é um mundo, uma cultura que nos absorve por completo. As cidades, os parques naturais, as praias, o caribe, as pessoas...enfim, só apetecia ficar por lá a viver!!!

E foi assim que fomos recebidos no 1º dia, eu e mais duas amigas, num hotel perto do aeroporto de San Jose.

O movimento da capital (San Jose).

À 1ª entrada no mato encontra-se disto!!!

A 1ª praia que encontrámos na margem do Pacífico.

A percorrer o interior.

Quando se vai para onde não se sabe encontra-se o que não se quer!!! ou talvez não!!!

Este foi o primeiro impacto à chegada a este País, explorando à toa e rumo ao incerto. Não fosse isso um prazer :)

Viena num dia

Tanto para conhecer, mas apenas um dia dedicado à capital da música clássica. Partindo de Budapeste, foi um pulinho de comboio.

A exploração da primeira avenida, sendo logo a famosa Mariahilfer.

Estátuas e monumentos não faltaram. Aqui, uma homenagem a Strauss.

A praça Judaica.

A Catedral no coração de Viena (Stephansdom). Situada na Stephansplatz, palco de grande movimento e animação.

Mais uns disparos a construções estrondosas.

Bratislava Pitoresca

Em Agosto de 2008, na companhia de uma amiga, fiquei a conhecer uma capital que me esperava há uns meses. Não foi possível chegar aqui a partir da Polónia em Março do mesmo ano, contratempos temporais...

Mais um pouco desta cidade fantástica...

Foi uma manhã e uma tarde a vaguear que nem uns perdidos.

Cidade pequena que fica "já ali" de algumas outras capitais europeias. Para nós foi um pulinho a partir de Viena...e vale a pena!!!
